Message from the Principal
The primary school years in a child’s life are the start of an endless learning journey. At Oakhurst we strive to make this journey a happy and fulfilling one.
The dedicated and committed staff seeks to provide the girls with a nurturing and caring environment in which to develop and grow into confident and compassionate young women equipped to make a positive impact on the world.
This mission, along with our proud tradition of innovation and academic excellence, makes us the school of choice for many families. We believe in providing opportunities for girls to excel in all areas, and participation in sport and the arts is encouraged. We proudly watch as our Grade seven girls move on to some of the most prestigious schools in the country.
I hope you will enjoy visiting our website and that you will come to appreciate what makes Oakhurst the school that has a special place in the hearts of so many girls, present and past.

Grade 6 Wortelgat Camp
March 6th, 2012The grade 6s went on camp to Wortelgat and it was the best camping experience for all of us. The activities were so much fun. We all got to know each other better. We enjoyed zip lining, swimming, hiking, and singing at the camp fire. We learnt so many skills. The food was great, some people even went back for thirds. We had so much fun in our dorms with our friends and slept really well.

Grade 5 Outing
March 6th, 2012 The Grade 5s recently went on an outing to the Hout Bay Museum. They learnt all about how the San, Khoi and Strandloper people lived and survived long ago. They also enjoyed a trip to Llandudno beach where they explored old caves and looked for evidence of previous habitation.Senior Gala
March 6th, 2012 Buxton was the winner of the 2012 Senior Gala and Athlone was awarded the Spirit Cup. Every girl participated in one or more race, swimming the length of the pool. The girls had a wonderful time cheering each other on and singing their house songs.Fun Sports Day
December 8th, 2011 This year our school had a Fun Sports Day. Everyone was included in the races, for example the three legged race and tunnel ball. Even though there was no trophy to be won, everyone participated and worked as a team to bring spirit to the event. We encouraged the girls to win their races for the various houses and sang house songs. Everyone had fun and it turned out to be a great memory to take with us, as we progress through our school career.Written by Jamie O’Brien and Layla Mahomed
Rhythm Workshop
December 8th, 2011 Oakhurst girls recently enjoyed a Rhythm workshop as part of the Summer School programme. Everyone was given a stick and a tube. The tubes were different sizes so they produced different sounds. One of the women from the workshop stood on the stage and we had to copy what she did with the tube and stick. If she hit it twice we would have to copy her. On the table behind her were all the different tubes. When she picked a tube that a row of girls had we would have to play on our tubes, if she put down our tubes we would stop. We made lots of beautiful sounds. Her brother and her niece were playing on different instruments in the background. It was an amazing experience, everyone enjoyed it!Written by Samantha and Emma
